There was another post prepped for today, but something else came to mind as I sat down at my trusty keyboard. Since this is the season to be jolly I wanted to post something that would bring a little joy and happiness to my faithful readers.

On December 23rd I had the honor of being invited to sing Christmas Carols at an Adult Living Facility with people I consider more family than friends. We went through the hallways singing everything from Jingle Bells to Hark The Herald Angels Sing and I never saw such joy on the faces of those who were there. The facility was beautiful and the staff there was so nice and accommodating. Some of the residents sang along with us, some clapped and others just smiled. It was a heartwarming and memorable experience.
dust yourself off and let your light shine.
Sometimes you will find the best way to get out of your pit of sorrows is to climb out of that pit; dust yourself off and let your light shine. And as your light shines it not only places warm smiles on the faces of others but will also warm your heart. Is it not written Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16) When God is glorified it not only gives the recipient joy but the giver finds joy too.

Some of the staff took pictures, recorded us on video and we got many applause. But it wasn’t any of those things that were most poignant for me. No, the two most memorable points for me were on the last leg of our trek when one dear lady blessed us and the other was when we were concluding our songs what appeared to be this husband and wife sitting before us—they grasped each other’s hand and the wife had a tear in her eye. At that moment I realized it doesn’t matter how gifted we are if we don’t use those gifts to glorify our Father with pure motives then our labors will have been in vain. Today, I can truly say the time we spent there was time well spent. Not only were the residents blessed but so were we. For it is also written “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38 NKJV)
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…
We must remember that not all blessings come in the form of currency or tangible things. Again, there are just some things money can’t buy. it is an honor to serve. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve (Luke 22:24a NKJV) And since Jesus is the reason for this season what greater gift can we give to Him than to show by example? So no matter what end of the Happy Spectrum we find ourselves this season please take out a little time to share with someone less fortunate—and when you have done for the least of these you will have done so for our Lord. (Matthew 25:40 NKJV)
