What Do You Do…

When You’ve Got Nothing Left?

When the storm of life hits and leaves us with nothing but rubble and ashes, it can be easy to feel lost and hopeless. As Christians, we are not immune to the trials and tribulations of this world. In fact, sometimes it may seem like we are targeted even the more. But in these moments of despair, it is crucial to remember who we are and whose we are. Here Jesus reminds us, These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NKJV)

After hurricane Milton ravaged our church community, we witnessed firsthand the devastation and heartache that comes with losing everything. Homes destroyed, belongings scattered, and loved ones taken too soon. It was a time of mourning and grief, but also a time of reflection and faith.

Here I am reminded of Job—who had so much loss and devastation in his life that it looked humanly impossible for anyone to overcome such overwhelming loss and grief. After losing all of his livestock and children he simply said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.”In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong. (Job 1:13-22 NKJV)

As children of God, we are called to trust in His plan and His timing, even when it seems impossible to do so. When there is nothing left, we must turn to God for strength and guidance. We must lean on our faith and on each other for support and comfort.

One of the most powerful things we can do in these moments of despair is to pray. Prayer is our direct line of communication with God, and He is always listening. Like Hannah, pour out your heart to Him, express your fears and doubts, and trust that He will provide you with the peace and comfort you need. ( I Samuel 1: 8-18 NKJV)

Another important aspect of navigating through the storm when there is nothing left is to lean on your community. Surround yourself with fellow believers who can pray for you, encourage you, and walk alongside you in your journey of healing and restoration. Together, we are stronger.

Lastly, remember that even in the darkest of times, God is still in control. His love for us is unwavering, and His plans for us are good. Trust in His promises and hold onto the hope that He will never leave us nor forsake us. (Deuteronomy 31:6 NKJV)

So, when there is nothing left, remember that you are not alone. Turn to God, lean on your community, and trust in His unfailing love. The storm may have taken everything from you, but it cannot take away your faith and your hope in Christ. He is the anchor in the storm, the light in the darkness, and the source of all comfort and peace.
