We all carry burdens. Past mistakes, regrets, habits that cling like shadows. The person I was—before Christ—sometimes feels like a different life. Yet, that old self remains within, whispering doubts, fueling fears.

Acknowledging the old me is the first step. It’s honest, necessary. It’s realizing that without God’s grace, I am prone to repeat the same sins, fall into the same traps. The old patterns die hard. But with humility, I admit: I cannot do this alone. (James 4:6 NKJV)
“Lord, save me from the old me.” These words are more than a prayer—they are a declaration of dependence. This is a divine plea. Recognizing that we need His power to break free from the chains of who we once were. It’s not about self-effort; it’s about self-surrender.

Romans 12:2 urges us: “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” The change begins in the heart, but it’s sustained through His Spirit. Daily surrender, prayer, and Scripture renew our minds and reshape our identity. This is transformation through God’s gift of grace
In Christ, we are made new. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV). Embracing this truth is vital. It’s a constant choice—to reject the old self and walk in the freedom Christ offers. Every day we must choose this day who we will serve.

This isn’t a one-time plea. Each day, I must cry out: “Lord, save me from the old me.” Because the battle is ongoing. Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV) His strength sustains us.
The desire to be free from the old self is a sign of spiritual growth. It’s a journey of daily surrender, trusting in His grace. So, I ask again—Lord, save me from the old me. And I trust that in His mercy, I will become more like Him.
If you feel the weight of your past, remember: His power is greater. Pray this prayer. Trust His transforming love. And step forward into the new life He promises.
