When we hear the term ‘Trauma’ it usually refers to one of two things: a deeply distressing or disturbing experience or a physical injury. Trauma is usually one of the words you hear in the Emergency Room of any hospital.
However, trauma to one’s soul is a combination of both these things. And also one of the most difficult to overcome. Because this type of trauma stems from endless episodes of being repeatedly hurt. Continuous rejection from one source or another. Misuse at the hands of the same personalities but different faces.
Because of much deeper damage…

This cyclic repetition of hurt and wounding occurs each time you pour your all-in-all into various relationships, organizations, and projects due to some deep abiding need for acceptance—just to fit in or be loved. Because of much deeper damage that caused you to react this way in the first place and not knowing who you really are for the second. Still, the evil hand of betrayal is always one step behind. With God’s help, you have got to break the cycle.
Of this soul trauma, David writes. “For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him: But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance. We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.” (Psalm 55:12-14)
The real you is hidden somewhere…

The world can be a very cruel and harsh place. And yes, we expect disappointments from time to time. But first, you must remember, being a King’s kid you are in the world not of it. (John 17:15-17) Happiness is always fleeting until you find the peace to recover your true identity. The real you is hidden somewhere beneath the shadow of a disturbing experience you’ve kept buried for a long time—afraid to share with anyone. Fearful of further betrayal and deeper hurt.
Because of the shroud of haziness…

This place of peace can only be found in the Lord. (Philippians 4:6-7) You cannot stay where you are. You have to let go of the mundane, comfortable, and familiar. In order for God to elevate you to a higher level of spirituality. Because of the shroud of haziness surrounding your vision; you are not going to be able to see the results of your decisions. However, you must move forward anyway; without carrying the baggages of guilt and shame. Rest assured, God is with you and He is directing your steps. You must allow the Lord to lead you through this fogginess and uncertainty. (Psalm 37:23-25)
Like an eagle, your sight elevation…

You have to be fully persuaded in spite of what you see or how you feel. (Romans 4:16-21) It is all in perception. Like an eagle, your sight elevation must come from a higher level so as you look down you can see the burial grounds of your traumatized soul. When your vision is different, you act differently. It is in this right view you make decisions in the fullness of God, according to the part you do not see. Our prayer, “From the end of the earth will I cry to you when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I”. (Psalm 61:2) You must learn to stand on the Word of God. Jesus is the higher rock!
It is here that God can begin to surgically dig up and heal the buried hurts. This is where you really go to God and carry those hurts to him. You have been carrying them for so long they have zapped your vitality, hindered your progress, and the ability to hear the voice of your own soul.
When you kneel before His Presence

Once you are at peace with God you can hear Him clearly as He talks with you. When you kneel before His Presence takes from your heart one by one these hurts. Those you have been carrying for a long time have bound themselves to the very fibers of your being. This will be a long arduous process. But each time you give these buried hurts over to God; they are immediately consumed by the Holy Fire on His Altar. Then you will be able to stand upright and set free in His Presence. (Psalm 16:10-11)

When you open the doors to the throne room of your heart this is where you met God. A mortal carrying buried hurts. Upon leaving, those doors will remain closed and you exit hurt-free. None of those hurts can penetrate those closed doors manifesting themselves in your life again. With the fragrant aroma of God’s Altar clinging to your clothes; as you walk among humanity with the signs of God’s Presence upon you.
